Back with their third single of the year is the New York-based husband and wife musical duo ghost prom. Gabriel got me into their previous hit ‘Let Me Alone‘, and I am now proud to introduce you to ‘Gramma’! Taking a somewhat different sonic path to ‘Let Me Alone’, the pair’s new tune serves as an anthemic indie-rock track with deliciously sweet vocal harmonies and a Countrygaze soundscape.
Reminiscent of acts like Great Grandpa, Oso Oso, and Kurt Vile, ghost prom has concocted a magical little song. It’s somehow intimate yet large at the same time. I can picture the duo playing it to me in my lounge, or on a large festival stage to an adoring crowd. That’s its power!
Lyrically, ‘Gramma’ deals with a grandson’s heartfelt desire to guide his suffering grandmother peacefully from this life to the next. It showcases Cameron and Eden’s wonderful storytelling ability, bringing to mind the late great Elliott Smith.
The tune will form part of ghost prom’s highly-anticipated debut album ‘Void Sweet Void’, scheduled for release on the seventeenth of this month. I simply cannot wait to hear it and, if ‘Gramma’ is a sign of things to come, we’re in for a serious treat!
Serious tune alert! Enjoy ‘Gramma’ on Spotify now:
