When delving into ‘Let Me Alone’, the listening experience is bound to be fragile and meaningful, almost soothing, although such emotionality gives it a veiled intensity that doesn’t fail to fully capture the listener’s attention. Introduced by a charming acoustic guitar, quite lo-fi and intimate, the record soon welcomes ghost prom’s evocative and luscious vocals, packed with majestic character and a strong sense of relatability. That’s the project’s main strength and the reason why the American duo is one of Folk’s most precious gifts.
In truth, ghost prom doesn’t shy away from informed eclecticism, as ‘Let Me Alone’ showcases. Embracing a certain Americana flavouring, the track evolves into a full-band anthem, while still maintaining its mellow attitude and deep calmness. Nostalgic and at times melancholic, ‘Let Me Alone’ is an almost perfect record. It’s light on the soul, yet incredibly complex and nuanced. Folk goodness at its best.
Based in New York, ghost prom are a husband/wife duo, something that explains a lot about how tight and authentic the project manages to be. Having dedicated the best part of two years to their upcoming album, the pair is now gearing up for its release, expected on November 17 via Wally Opus Records.
