We have loved listening to ‘Faith’. Introduced by an enchanting kaleidoscope of layered vocals, the track gradually evolves with the help of refined sound design, blending field recordings and cinematic efx in order to build an intimate supporting arrangement, fully enhancing the magnitude of Juli von Lou’s vocals. With the song running at a relatively short length (two minutes), we are given just enough time to appreciate the eclectic songwriting and the imagery that comes with it. Yet, it feels totally enough. Believe us, it is something quite extraordinary. A sensory deprivation process. The listener will likely not be able to resist and will capitulate to the anthemic and superb nature of ‘Faith’.
Who is Juli von Lou? Based in Sweden, she has been championing her artistry since a very young age, music being her sole companionship while growing up on a farm in the middle of the woods. Moving to the country’s capital at 15, she was able to quickly build up her skills, releasing an EP in 2020 which instantly put her on the map as one of the most talented newcomers.
And how could it not be that way? ‘Who The Fuck Is Frank’ already possessed all the strong points we find in von Lou today: an ocean of layered vocals with poignant, sleazy delivery. Nevertheless, ‘Faith’ raises the bar once again: this time the track is fully produced and mixed by von Lou herself. Crispy, gritty vocals interlace on a sparse, researched arrangement, managing to perfectly paint a pop gem infused with folk sensibilities. If the song describes the process of losing faith, we can safely say we did instead find faith in Juli von Lou, as the potential next big thing.
