German Trio FEH Share Latest Effort ‘Black Poplar Seeds’

I clearly remember one of my teenage’s summers spent listening to Portishead’s ‘Third’ – as a result, I do deeply connect with what FEH are trying to do. Their work is enlightened by a surprising kaleidoscopic flair, encompassing far more than trip-hop. Taking cues from Hip-Hop, 90s euphoria and everything in between, the Munich-based trio seems determined to build a compelling sonic picture, often based on wonky, unconventional beats and icy guitars. ‘Black Poplar Seeds’ is the group’s latest effort, a stunning slice of modern trip-hop.

In it, the listener will put into practice everything discussed above: the track is soulful, yet eclectic and energetic. Julia Fehenberger’s lead vocals are the perfect match for such a rich instrumental. Her jazz roots can be greatly observed, together with her charisma. Manuel da Coll and Oliver Wrage help the record rise to stardom, providing alternative drum work and sampling-flavoured elements.

Describing the lyricism behind ‘Black Poplar Seeds’, FEH explains: “The song recalls a very special and rare form of a poplar tree that grows in their neighbourhood. It’s the place for lovers to meet”.
