George Bolton Returns to Electronic Music with ‘Atomic’

It took us a while to realise that George Bolton is the same human behind The Screaming Pope, an eclectic project we have written about in the past. In particular, we wrote this bit: “George Bolton does what he does best: he navigates the full spectrum of modern popular music and pulls in the most heterogeneous influences, diving into pop, indie, hip-hop, and finally his roots, electronic music”.

Celebrating his roots is exactly what he’s doing now, exploring the techno and house-inspired material he used to relish in his younger era. ‘Atomic’ is the result of such a process, a long and colourful album delving into club-based bangers, textural pieces and ambient-inspired soundscapes. There’s a good amount of organic beats and guitar additions too; not bad for a project named George Bolton’s Trancendental.

One of the craziest transitions in the album can be found between ‘Euphoria’ and ‘In Theory’. Going from ethereal, airy tones to dark, misty and cloudy techno stylings. Well done George! Shout out also for the short length of the tracks, which almost become just a palatable teaser for a potential bigger picture.
