Chris Galis is another artist that we’ve had the pleasure of featuring recently. Hailing from Texas and performing under the moniker of Genuine Leather, the lo-fi synth-pop musician caught my attention with his breezy and upbeat single ‘Promises’. I’ve been patiently waiting to hear from him again, and now he’s returned with ‘Even If I Could’, another synth-filled and anthemic banger. Beautifully layered and pieced together, it takes on a more downtempo atmosphere when compared to its predecessor. It’s light and airy, and once again demonstrates Chris’ masterful flair for combining different sounds and textures.
From The Beatles and Radiohead to Joy Divison, Tears for Fears, and Talking Heads, Galis’ musical influences are as wide and varied as his sound. “Something changed after listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Blood Sugar Sex Magik,” admits the artist.
Genuine Leather seems to finally be getting the recognition that we feel he richly deserves. As his name suggests, his music is authentic, real, and undiluted. ‘Even If I Could’ is yet another superb addition to Chris’ ever-growing discography, and if it’s a tune that’s up your alley, you’ll be happy to know there’s plenty more where that came from!
