While transitioning from classic flute to IDM could be a hard challenge for many, it certainly isn’t for Australian composer, musician and singer Genevieve Sovereign. She’s had a stellar year, debuting her personal project with the 5-track EP ‘It’s yours’, an underrated record combining flutes, glitchy electronica and oriental influences. A true pioneer, Sovereign is not afraid to pursue new artistic avenues, knowing full well that value is often hidden where others haven’t looked yet.
Following up on the EP, Genevieve Sovereign explores more conventional music territories, partnering up with fellow singer and songwriter Ben Tenison on the electronic pop number ‘Vibration Angle’. In it, we get to fully appreciate the magnitude of her vocals, capable of reaching high registries while remaining in full control. Expressive and evocative; Sovereign’s lyrics pair up with Tenison’s lines perfectly, providing a nice contrast between an acute and a deeper tone.
‘Vibration Angle’ connect to one of the Australian talent’s early loves, electronic music. The single also open up the road for Genevieve’s next EP, a record fully set on a mellower, more friendly poppy vibe.
