It’s been less than a year since Gaslight‘s debut album, yet the Australian rockers seem determined to once again remind us of their fierce take on classic rock and gentle punk rebellion. ‘Inner City Sally’ is the single that takes the cake, a punchy, fuzzy anthem packed with electrifying guitar tones and relatable, playful lyricism. In it, we can fully appreciate Ivan Beecroft’s simple, yet hard-hitting songwriting, together with his love for nostalgic instrumentation.
Recorded with a prominent lo-fi allure, ‘Inner City Sally’ has to be taken at face value. If you are looking for polish and perfection, the single isn’t for you. Instead, authenticity and charisma are what will attract you to it. A pure, unfiltered nugget of old-school rock’n’roll character, the record also showcases the unique and peculiar artistry Gaslight have to offer. Nikk Kourmouzis and Mark Norton complete the talented lineup.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, Beecroft explains: “I was living in St Kilda in Melbourne and the housemate I had used to grumble about me going to the burbs to jam out with friends in Dandenong who I trusted instead of all the untrustworthy loser junkie mates of his.”
