Welcome to Mesmerized, where we sit down with the most fascinating and talented newcomers on the scene. Today, we have the honour of interviewing GASH, a rapper and producer with a very personal and authentic style. Championing a hypnotising and powerful flow, the Connecticut resident is slowly but surely showcasing himself as a force to be reckoned with.
Off the back of an incredibly productive year – including his debut – GASH teams up with fellow hip-hop artist Suave-Ski for an ethereal yet bouncy offering, ‘ABOVE CLOUD 9’. Featuring groove and character, the track is refreshing while being anchored in tradition.
Intrigued by the project, we caught up with GASH to find out more about his artistry and future project… Interview below!
Hey GASH, how is it going? some of our readers might not be familiar with your project, how would you describe yourself, in a few words?
I’m an artist, producer and illustrator from Connecticut. I make eccentric and high-energy music.
Your current work is the result of a long journey; What first drew you to making music?
I’ve always had a passion for creating art. I naturally fell into it.
If you had the opportunity to pick any artists in the world for a collaboration, who would be your first choice? (and second choice, perhaps?)
There’s no particular artist I would pick. Great collaborations come together naturally, and you never know whose energy you’re going to connect with.
You recently released a groovy yet dreamy track, ‘ABOVE CLOUD 9’. How did the collab with Suave-Ski happen? Do you pair well, artistically speaking?
I met Suave at his album listening party. He liked my music so we linked up to record a track a few weeks later. After the song was done we agreed that it was deserving of a video.
Do you feel more confident writing music alone, or within a team?
I like to create alone, it’s easier to focus that way.
We are impressed by your production skills. What software do you use for it? Would you consider yourself more of a producer or an MC?
Thank you. I use Logic Pro. And it’s really hard to say, because sometimes I feel like I’m a better rapper than producer and vice-versa.
Artistically speaking, what challenges have the last two years presented you with?
Gaining exposure,+ balancing life and music.
What are the next steps for your project? Anything exciting on the horizon?
More music is on the way!
