Gary Dranow Shares Latest Effort ‘Shimmering’

Unlike Dranow’s previous offerings, ‘Shimmering’ feels distinctively modern and spacious, resembling the likes of U2 and R.E.M., among others. A welcome return for the Park City creative, who seems to enjoy a constant state of inspiration, at least judging by the number of releases he’s delivered in the past few years. To be fair, having such a majestic and powerful vocal tone must make it easy to pen wholesome and meaningful material.

‘Shimmering’ is exactly that, a nostalgic yet fierce gem built on 90s rock stylings and modern folk. Punchy drums and bundled guitars help the track feel colourful and eclectic, with Dranow then crowning it with his vocals, often layered in a thousand harmonies. The songwriting is especially relevant, being so relatable and lyrically enticing.

Speaking about the inspiration behind it, Gary explains: “A highly vulnerable song about my first Romance with Janine while attending Taft High. It’s about how we met and fell in love and then separated during senior year. I experienced heartbreak for the first time back then.”
