Gary Dranow, along with his band The Manic Emotions, has just released his latest tune called ‘Mellow Drama’, a rocky, bluesy little number that has a classic 80s rock swagger to it. Serving as the follow-up to the successful ‘Something About You’, ‘Mellow Drama’ is Dranow’s most personal song up to now. Diagnosed with bipolar with mania when he was forty, the Utah-based musician dives head first into what it might have been like for others to be in his presence. “I was hyper-aggressive and often people would be put off by my demeanour,” says Dranow. “Now, I’m as calm as a lake without wind”.
Influenced by giants like Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn, ‘Mellow Drama’ allows for Dranow’s effortlessly superb guitar playing to come to the fore. A groovy bassline and playful keys are then sprinkled into the mix, all culminating in a track that you just can’t help but tap your foot to.
‘Mellow Drama’ sees Dranow inviting the listener into his mind and his world. It’s a story of passion, perseverance, and the tenacity of the human spirit. It’s also a tune that I’ve fallen in love with, and cannot stop listening to!
