A familiar face on our blog, Garland Kelley has slowly solidified a unique sound that draws from classic rock and takes him to more eclectic territories, also delving into pop lyricism, from time to time. In essence, it’s approachable guitar-based music. Given the recent resurgence of the genre (cue Maneskin), we are confident Kelley will gather a sizeable audience around the project.
‘Give It All Away’ is the project’s latest effort, a bright and kaleidoscopic slice of musical goodness. In it, the listener will appreciate the many musical references, including some reggae and ska vibes which the record certainly benefits from. A prop must also be given to Kelley’s vocals, capable of swimming in gentle or intense waters, adapting to their sonic context. As always his guitar playing showcases a high degree of musicianship.
Lyrically, ‘Give It All Away’ focuses on the issues with our modern world, especially regarding materialism and overconsumption. A theme that deeply resonated with Garland himself, which explains to be “an avid outdoorsman and adventurer, and this connection is often felt in my music.”
