Gade System: “I ended up finishing the arrangement within a week, that’s a crazy number for me!”

If you are a fan of fragmented, chaotic and complex electronic music, you are in luck! Gade System has been cooking up a storm, remixing Teotek’s banger ‘Incessant Fluorescent’. Drenched in dubstep, Neurofunk and D&B stylings, the track is incredibly hard-hitting and fierce, taking the listeners on an unmatched journey packed with twitchy synths, deep bass tones and digital glitches.

Healing from Stuttgart, Germany, Gade System is known by day as Rene Kuschnick. He’s performed in the UK a fair bit, most notably appearing at Boomtown and Bangface Festival. Produced in a week only,  ‘Incessant Fluorescent’ it’s one of Gade’s best releases to date, showcasing all of his rave-inspired prowess.

Intrigued by the project, we caught up with the German creative to find out more about his artistry and future goals… Interview below!

Hey Gade System, thanks for chatting with us! We have been listening to your remix of ‘Incessant Fluorescent’, and we are impressed with the vibrant and electrifying arrangement you made for it. How did the collaboration with Teotek come along?

It was a fate kind of thing, I don’t really do remixes or collaborations a lot because I’m the worst at committing to a project and it historically doesn’t go anywhere when I try, but one Saturday I had some time and really wanted to do a remix for someone. Teo wrote me that day asking me to remix Incessant Fluorescent and I felt like the track was perfect for it. I ended up finishing the arrangement within a week, that’s a crazy number for me!

What are your biggest influences? Is there any particular artist that guides your musical journey?

For Gade System, I’m inspired by my two favourite kinds of DNB – the modern, cutting-edge Noisia/Mefjus kind of stuff and also a very specific subgenre called Skullstep during a very specific time period – 2006 to 2012. Limewax mostly. That sort of aggression I feel is all over my music while it never fully dips into those aesthetics.

Now, into technical topics: how did you approach the production for ‘Incessant Fluorescent’? What’s your DAW of choice?

I made that in FL Studio, like everything in the past 12 years. Approach-wise there wasn’t really anything special – I just made a drop and went from there. The idea was to keep the energy of the original but turn it all up to 12.

Are there any external machines or synths involved?

I do not own any hardware, thank Christ! I rather spend my money on important stuff like takeaways and Patreon Subscriptions…

Do you feel more confident writing music alone, or within a team?

Alone.

Do you DJ? also, how’s the music scene in Stuttgart? Is there a prominent club scene?

I do DJ, but never had a gig around here. I’m most connected in the UK scene, specifically Bristol, which comes from my Breakcore days.

Artistically speaking, what challenges have the last two years presented you with?

I am constantly struggling with writer’s block and too many ideas. So yeah, that.

What are the next steps for your project? Anything exciting on the horizon?

I kind of want to do an album and have some ideas, but it’s gonna be quite different from what I do right now. I also have a few DNB tunes on the go still that I want to send to a label. Maybe by summer next year?
