Emerging from the Atlantic lands of Nova Scotia, Canada, Gabrielle Sofia is a gifted multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer. Although her geographical borders are constrained by an aisle, her talent is not: Sofia is the classic story of the eclectic musical genius, mastering every instrument and exhibiting a natural ability for songwriting and composing. Debuting last year with the album ‘Lacewood’, Gabrielle was able to showcase her unique yet relatable sonic style, blending soulful beats and groovy basslines with poignant vocals and ethereal soundscapes.
Earlier this summer, Sofia returned with her latest effort, a charming slice of bright and groovy indie-pop, ‘CHANGE YOUR MOOD’. While being an overall feel-good and bubbly gem, the record also marks a definite step up in both production and songwriting, signalling that the Canadian talent is now ready for bigger things.
Introduced by wobbly synth stabs, the track soon jumps into a tropical-flavoured, bouncy beat, creating a nice rhythmic contrast. Sofia’s vocals float freely on top of this exciting arrangement, only to take the shape of sampled fx’ in the chorus. The chorus: a glorious drop, it will test your resistance to dancing.
Overall, a fantastic record by Gabrielle Sofia. Recommended!
