Frum Returns with Cathartic Jewel ‘Rise’

It took us a while to write this article, mostly because of how dreamy, intense and cathartic the record in question is. Listening to ‘Rise’, it’s incredibly difficult not to get absorbed in its cinematic, evocative tones and its haunting, poignant lyricism. It almost automatically initiates an introspective journey on the unsuspecting listener – a journey that’s perhaps melancholic, but also healing and empowering.

Penned by Faroese songstress Frum, ‘Rise’ benefits from her lush, elegant vocals, further blooming into a happy marriage of hard-hitting electronica and rowdy bass synths. In fact, the record is comprised of two main sections. The first one is rather soothing – ethereal, vocal-based – and the second one redeems such mild mannerism in favour of dark soundtrack-esque influences.

Known by day as Jenný Augustudóttir, Frum has struck gold once again, developing the project as a “multi-sensual experience primarily being music, film and expression through the body”.
