I am writing this article the way I often do, by disregarding any press material (at least first) and making sure I capture the first impression of what the record and the artist evoke in me. Well, with ‘Pieces Of Glass’ that first impression is incredibly positive. Introduced by a nuanced and elegant arrangement, the song makes use of textural guitars and a poignant grand piano, setting the mood for Francesca Confortini’s majestic and cathartic vocals.
As it slowly develops, ‘Pieces Of Glass’ morphs into a rare piece of classic, stylish pop, featuring organic instrumentation and a certain soulful, jazzy character… Confortini can handle it all, crowning the track with her immersive songwriting and poignant delivery. Layering her vocals in a plethora of mesmerising harmonies, the record soon jumps into a piano solo that highlights the jazz factor, as mentioned above.
I’d define ‘Pieces Of Glass’ as timeless. It’s the kind of record that will always be relevant, standing true to the test of time and defying trends and common formulas. It’s just that good. Trust me on that!
