About three months ago, I came across a tune called ‘Streams of Thought’. Courtesy of New York-based progressive metal act Forever in Transit, it was a track I proudly labelled “an absolute epic from start to finish”. Having patiently waited for their new album ‘A Coming to Terms,’ I am now honoured to be able to share it with you today!
A seven-song offering of monumental proportions, the band’s latest record is an exercise in complex arrangements and masterful musicianship. Pushing the boundaries of progressive metal, the dynamic album is one of the best I’ve heard all year.
‘Let Go Your Earthly Tether’ gets the ball rolling powerfully and expertly sets the tone for what’s to come. Intense, potent, and all-consuming! ‘What Lies Beneath’ then steps up to the plate and offers a more ethereal listening experience, as it addresses the conflict between our self-narratives and true identity.
The aforementioned ‘Streams of Thought‘ serves as the record’s third tune before the journey continues with ‘I Cling to Threads’. Exploring the challenge of letting go of expectations that cause suffering, the seven-minute saga swells with emotion.
The remaining three tracks are as impressive as their predecessors and each deserves an entire essay of their own. Alas, I’ll leave the deep dive to you. All I’ll say is…What an album and what an outfit!
