‘Zeitgeist’ is the genre-bending new EP from Southampton-based producer and DJ Jon Hannan, who’s better known by his moniker of Flatfoot Sam. Also known as the mastermind behind Tripfield, a fusion of Triphop and Leftfield, Flatty offers up five tracks that, in his words, “celebrate all things weird and Tripfield”. ‘Come’ gets the EP underway and it’s a tune that’s filled with old-school synths, mesmerizing drum work, and a general atmospheric vibe that’s pretty hard to escape. ‘Ascend’ then follows, and introduces spiritual chants into the equation. It’s really more of a journey than it is a song, and it takes you places you possibly have never ventured before.
‘Bottles’ and ‘Helch’ continue the trippy expedition, and both serve as perfect examples of Flatty’s Tripfield sound. Experimental, unique, adventurous, superb! ‘Bottles’ is also the first Tripfield tune to feature live vocals thanks to the talented Laurence toute seule.
‘Boathouse’ is the EP’s final track and was first released in August last year. It’s a song that got heads turning and ears pricking up and has since gone on to amass a decent amount of plays on Spotify. ‘Zeitgeist’ is unlike anything I’ve heard before. And I mean that in absolutely the best way possible!
