Delving into their biography, First Day of Spring are very adamant about what they stand for. Emphasising that they “want you to feel something”, the London-based outfit champions an expansive and spacious sonic imprint, often balanced between alt-rock and shoegaze, always boasting a certain dreamy contour. Such an irresistible identity makes it hard for us to ignore them.
‘You’re Blue I’m Blue’ is one of their most recent efforts, a single included in the wider EP ‘Be My Hospital’. In it, First Day of Spring showcase their best form, exploring vibrant, fuzzy guitars and introspective, lush vocals. Fellow vocalist Mariah Maines joins head honcho Samuel Jones on the song: the blend of male/female voices works very well in this case, giving the record an elegant, ethereal livery.
Overall, ‘You’re Blue I’m Blue’ has a strong American flair, yet the talents behind it hail originally from Southend-on-Sea, UK. Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, they explain: “It’s predominantly about tribes and ultimately the ability for those tribes to co-exist harmoniously and be among each other in the present. We wanted to make an unapologetic alt-song heavily guitar-based plug-in and go. Like the pixies or something.”
