Towards the end of last year, I was introduced to a gentle indie-folk tune called ‘Different‘ by a ridiculously talented London-based singer/songwriter named Fiona Amaka. I instantly fell in love with the romantic little ditty, and it quickly found its way to my “On Repeat” playlist. Since then, Fiona has released another two singles: ‘Justified (Cosmic)’ and most recently ‘No Daylight’. Today, I’m honoured to introduce you to ‘No Daylight’.
Sonically, straight from the off, we’re presented with a very different vibe compared to ‘Different’. Set against a backdrop of crashing guitars and rocky instrumentals, it’s an exhilarating change of speed. It’s also a showcase of the fearless and multifaceted approach Fiona undertakes with her art.
Delivering a more poignant and restrained vocal performance, Amaka adds a layer of vulnerability to the track, expertly balancing the song’s intensity. That said, ‘No Daylight’ is still a perfect example of the artist’s vocal prowess, a feature that seems to transform everything she releases into an unforgettable listening experience.
With growing Spotify numbers and an authentic sound, Fiona Amaka is a musician deserving of a wide audience. And, if you’re lucky enough to be near The Strongroom in Shoreditch this Saturday, you’ll have the perfect opportunity to experience her artistry firsthand.
Serious tune alert! Enjoy ‘No Daylight’ on Spotify now:
