Based in Baltimore, Fermata Caesura is a chamber-folk band that is known for its cinematic yet somehow still intimate soundscape. On their brand new single ‘Empty Promises’, the group offer up what they have described as “a fever dream detailing the disintegration of a relationship”. It’s a hauntingly beautiful and deeply emotive tune that takes traditional acoustic string instruments and wonderfully intertwines them with a more modern songwriting structure. The ethereal, graceful, and commanding vocals of Lisa Mazza Hamilton are on full display and, when combined with the instrumentation, simply create pure magic.
Having met on Craigslist through a shared love for artists like Edgar Allan Poe, John Denver, Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead, Bon Iver, Iron and Wine, and The Civil Wars, Fermata Caesura has been seriously busy this year! ‘Empty Promises’ is their fourth single so far, and they also released a full-length album entitled ‘Ever Colder’.
Fermata Caesura continue to pursue their musical dream of combining poetry with classical string instruments and rock music. I’m so pleased to have discovered them and their music. Now, please excuse me, while I go lie down and give the entire ‘Ever Colder’ album a listen.
