The keen reader will gladly remember Welsh songster Feralman. Having previously featured him on our pages, we got to know his refined artistry in particular detail, proudly describing the project as “a unique brand of evocative folk music, bathed in cinematic epicness”. The listening experience is rather remarkable. Soothing, introspective and solemn material next to more troubling and convoluted pieces. Essentially, it’s a sonic and lyrical journey through human nature, so beautifully explained and interpreted by Feralman’s vivid and ethereal vocal tone.
Good things come to an end, they said. Not this time! Feralman is gearing up for a larger release, expected on March 10th. Titled ‘Allegories’, the album is the culmination of two busy years, and it encapsulates the best the project has to offer. Collecting old gems and newer jewels, the record is a strong testament to the Welsh artist’s songwriting prowess, and – we are pretty confident – his ultimate consecration as one of the new pillars of British folk.
From the glorious dreamy lands of ‘Memories Remain’ to the punchier and modern bays of ‘The Wolf Cried Out’, there is a certain eclecticism in Feralman’s work. ‘The Mouse & The Lion’ will capture your heart with cinematic flutes and choral harmonies, making it easy to imagine yourself on the back of a horse riding at a fast pace in boundless prairies. Among others, ‘Time Rolls On’ is one of the fiercest episodes on the album.
Overall, the listener will rejoice in discovering all the nuances of the project, while being empowered by its lyrical message: believe in yourself and pursue your destiny. ‘Allegories’ is truly shaping up to be a classic. Don’t sleep on it.
