As lovers of vaporwave and fringe electronica, we truly enjoyed delving into fairy dust’s Spotify catalogue. The guy is a bit of a genius, constantly bunny-hopping between genres and references looking for the freshest and most striking sonic recipe. Well, it seems that the multi-talented Chicago creative is now focusing on class and elegance.
Leaving chaos at the door, fairy dust embarks on more conventional song-form material, still maintaining his signature whirlwind of textures and researched sound design. Blending electronica with psychedelia and indie stylings, ‘whore’ results in a warm minimalistic anthem, quite noisy and lo-fi in its execution. In it, we can also appreciate fairy dust’s compelling vocals, treated in layers and layers of effects and autotune.
Now, under such a comprehensive musical premise, ‘whore’ is surprisingly packed with tons of lyrical poignancy and meaningful songwriting. As the American talent explains: “A song about feeling like a failure amid the end of a relationship. The song attempts to deal with feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt.”
