It took us a while to write this review. We let the record flow while relaxing and doing other stuff, and well, it had quite a magic effect on us. Putting us into a very brave state of mind, where we can accept what life throws at us and where we make peace with our expectations and internal pains.
It’s no wonder why that happened: Pete Miller’s artistry emerges from raw life experiences, from years working in modest, physical jobs, labouring on farms or manning construction sites. It is from this down-to-earth perspective that Miller’s music emerges. But make no mistake: his songwriting is the furthest thing from ‘simple’. Crafting folk gems, the American talent is putting himself on the map as one of the most authentic authors in the genre.
Now, going back to what we were listening to: ‘Live On Record’ is Pete Miller’s latest record, an album that’s simple in its aesthetics but heavy in its cultural content. Just guitar and vocals, all tracks were recorded live, with no overdubs. Echoing strong Johnny Cash vibes, the album is an experience on its own, pushing the listeners into Miller’s old-school, yet contemporary personal world.
