Everchanging Laws is the musical project of Lars Weigmann, a German-based musician, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. In 2021, he released his debut self-titled album, and now he’s returned with a killer three-track EP in the form of ‘Some Place I Forgot’. Dealing with themes of holding on to bad habits, self-reflection, and letting go, the EP is an introspective one that flows between hard-hitting, mellow, and more melancholic and thoughtful sounds. ‘This Time’ is the EP’s opener, and begins with a delicate and airy acoustic guitar. Drums are then introduced along with a shoegazy and washed-out guitar before Weigmann makes his vocal introduction. It’s the perfect tune to get things up and running!
‘Waiving Tragedy’ follows ‘This Time’ and gives off a more gritty and grungy vibe to its predecessor. This is where we see Lar’s love for bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden coming to the fore.
‘I Hate Overpriced Restaurants’ rounds up the EP and again it feels like a perfectly placed song. It’s smooth, warm, mellow, and intimate. It also showcases Weigmann’s versatility and diversity. Just perfect! I get the feeling we’ll be hearing a lot more Everchanging Laws very very soon!
