While ETOLUBOV operates in the realm of commercial music – although she’s constantly at the fringe of it – her latest album ‘VSELUBOV’ is highly eclectic and leftfield, showcasing the Ukrainian songstress’ nuanced artistry, driven forward with strong charisma and confidence. Blending oriental tones, soft electronic stylings and English lyricism, the talented creative manages to build a sonic livery that feels quirky and unique, certainly a breath of fresh air in the international music landscape.
Spread over nine tracks, ‘VSELUBOV’ jumps from leftfield EDM productions to bouncy hip-hop grooves, all delivered with an unusual sound palette navigating arab instruments, enchanting harmonies and Eastern European formulas. The result is an album which feels incredibly wide and universal in its references, yet very specific in its identity. A wonderful display of musical prowess from ETOLUBOV.
Hailing from Odesa, Ukraine, but now based in Paris, she’s known as Liubov Fomenko by day, continuing her fierce and nuanced exploration of global styles with every release. Speaking about the album, Fomenko explains: “I managed to expand the creative framework, experimenting with new forms, ideas, sounds, and meanings while remaining within the context and philosophy of the project.”
