‘Matinee’ is the brand new EP from Chicago-based artist Erik Evy, and it’s the smooth, laidback, and experimental album that you need in your life right now! Drawing on inspiration from the likes of the late great Mac Miller, J. Cole, and André 3000, Evy describes his lyrical and vocal prowess on the EP as “spoken word storytelling”. “I guess this is an auditory vlog to hold myself accountable,” says the musician, as the EPs opener ‘Sunday Morning’ gets underway and sets the perfect tone and vibe for what’s to come.
The conscious choice of keeping the instrumental side of things minimal and stripped-back allows for Evy’s lyrics to truly hit home and, working alongside Dolapo Inc, produce one of the finest EPs that we have heard so far this year!
“Matinee is a very personal project for me,” says Erik, and it doesn’t take long to hear that he’s being completely honest when he says that. The EP is a deep dive into the artist’s thoughts, emotions, and life journey so far, with every one of the four tracks offering the listener a glimpse into an aspect of Evy’s life. This guy deserves every accolade that will surely soon be coming his way!
