Sometimes you don’t need words to get a point across, all you need are frequencies. Frequencies that intertwine each other, creating a new sonic universe in the ears of each listener, and that perhaps offer a welcome refuge from the everyday stress and hustle. This interesting aesthetic is certainly championed by Disco Dreams, young music producer emerging from Ohio, US. Using an array of electronic instruments as well as guitars and his vocals, the American talent manages to draw an ethereal, transcending picture, pushing the boundaries of what’s considered leftfield, while anchoring itself in retro influences.
The project’s latest effort, ‘Ether Swamp’, configure itself as a sort of psychedelic soup, blending glitchy synthesisers with scattered beats and long, reverbed vocals, resulting in a kaleidoscopic track, the type of track you can get lost to. The record follows up from ‘Cryptic [K]night’, perhaps a more mellow offering, although always emotional in its aesthetic.
The way Disco Dreams uses his vocals reminds us of seminal acts such M83, and in general, there is a certain shoegaze sensibility, which goes to enrich the scope of the producer’s artistic output. Contrary to what you might think, Disco Dreams’ music is accessible and friendly, and we encourage you to give it a listen. You won’t regret it.
