Enter Deep Dive Species’ Leftfield Sonic Universe with ‘Aquaphilia’

Pulling a rather interesting promotional stunt, Deep Dive Species seek to remind us of their 2022 album ‘Aquaphilia’, sharing a little ‘ad’ video (as they describe it) for ‘YOLO’, the record’s instrumental opener. Naturally, we had to go back and give the record another listen – is it still relevant in 2024?

As it turns out, it is. In fact, it’s a timeless album. Drenched in post-rock, experimental and leftfield tones, ‘Aquaphilia’ reveals itself as an obscure, gloomy, reflective jewel, a long collection of life-changing pieces featuring an unwavering stream of soundscapes and blissful textures. Occasional spoken words integrate the sonic picture.

Over fourteen tracks, the listeners will be hypnotised by such a powerful artistry. Vadim Militsin and Sergey Popovich are the talented humans behind such a monumental album, both experienced composers and musical alchemists. If this sounds like something that would appeal to you, we recommend giving ‘Aquaphilia’ another chance – you won’t regret it.
