Enter Buddy Junior’s Hazy, Hypnotising Sonic Universe

If you blend shoegaze and psychedelia, what you get is a group of talented creatives named Buddy Junior. Don’t believe me? Try it out for yourself – hailing from San Francisco, the band describes themselves as ‘noise pop’, also unveiling their latest effort ‘HOLY (everybody wants peace)’. It’s one of the quirkiest, most peculiar pieces we have come across lately.

Delivered with a very chant-like, hypnotising character, ‘HOLY (everybody wants peace)’ layers hazy vocals over a lo-fi, noisy guitar-powered instrumental, particularly celebrating such a striking contrast. You’ve got the rough, angular instrumental tones against liminal, tender and sparse vocals, often lingering on a single note. The result of that is hard to describe, it’s more something that needs to be experienced.

If that floats your boat, Buddy Junior have also released an album ‘RUST’, definitely worth checking out. Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘HOLY’, they explain: “HOLY is a song about getting paranoid and hearing shit, maybe some other stuff too.”
