I’m just going to come right out and say it…’Senseless’ is one of my favourite tunes so far this year! Courtesy of Blueburst, the brainchild of Atlanta-based singer/songwriter and guitarist Craig Douglas Miller, it’s a mesmerizing, rich, and enormously captivating track. Opening with a waltzing beat that adds a delicateness to proceedings, Miller admits that he’s always been a fan of the 1,2,3 rhythm. “I’ve always liked songs with a waltz beat, ala Radiohead’s ‘Nice Dream'”. The song expertly alternates between crunchy, chiming, jangling, and intense textures, as Craig and Co. produce a dynamic and immersive piece of music that truly deserves to be heard by many.
Lyrically, there’s not much that Miller doesn’t cover and explore. From the complexities of the human experience to regret, joy, heartache, and everything in between, he doesn’t shy away from anything. Raw, honest, and genuine.
‘Senseless’ is the band’s fifth and final single before they unleash their full-length debut album ‘Significance’ in just two months’ time. They’ve promised, “an invigorating sonic experience that defies boundaries and leaves an indelible mark on the music landscape”. Good to know they’re not setting the bar too high then! Joking aside, I candidly believe they have the skills to pull it off!
