Enjoy The Overhead Bins’ Poignant Tune ‘Microphone’

Jeremy Bregman

‘Microphone’ is an incredible new tune from Brooklyn-based three-piece alternative-rock act The Overhead Bins. Earlier this year the band put out their debut album ‘Telethon’ and that’s where you can find the tune. Written over a span of three years, and nearly being scrapped completely, ‘Microphone’ would eventually become one of the first tracks that the band recorded for the album. It’s a dreamy and alternative rock song that, to me, gives off a Radiohead feel with Jimmy Staple’s sweet and haunting falsetto vocals. The backing instrumentation serves as the perfect vehicle for Jimmy’s story, an emotive and poignant one that is deeply honest.

All three band members studied at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music. It wasn’t until moving to Brooklyn, however, that they discovered their mutual love for creating a unique and distinctive sound together.

I’ve listened to ‘Microphone’ about five times now. It gets better, more full-bodied, and more intriguing with every listen. Can you believe that it was nearly scrapped altogether? We are so thankful that it wasn’t, and cannot wait to sink our teeth into the full album! Onwards and upwards for The Overhead Bins!
