‘Through the Rain (Directors Cut, Vol.1)’ is an exceptional new EP from the Swedish singer/songwriter and musician Rebecka Molander. A self-taught pianist and ridiculously versatile vocalist, Molander offers up six original tunes that showcase her smooth, organic, and jazz-inspired sound. The title track gets the EP underway and sets the perfect tone for what’s to come. A minimalist soundscape with sparse percussion instruments allows for the artist’s emotive and glittering vocals to lead the way, all culminating in a laidback and utterly alluring song.
‘Get Gone’ follows ‘Through the Rain’ and, for me, it’s a standout track. Drawing on inspiration from a broad range of genres, Molander somehow creates a tune that’s both soothing and lively at the same time. Calming, yet sparkly. Absolutely brilliant!
The remaining four tracks on the EP continue to showcase Rebecka’s impressive songwriting skills and dynamic range as a musician. Each song offers its own unique sound and style, with influences ranging from jazz and pop to funk and soul. There’s something for everyone to enjoy on ‘Through the Rain’ and I have no doubt that we’ll be hearing a lot more from Rebecka Molander in the very near future!
