“lost at home” is Emily Masson’s second album, a collection of bold lyricism and collaborative cohesion. Discovering a passion for songwriting through the experience of motherhood, Emily honed her craft recording with Jones for Sound in Colorado, working with many talented western slope musicians to build a unique soundscape.
Opening with namesake track “lost at home”, the record arrives with warmth; rich, distinctive vocals fill the space with characterful vibrato, and country vibes bring contentment.
Songwriting throughout the album is established, with melody lines bringing a traditional flair and instrumentation bringing new elements to each track, with classic sounds ringing out on “when we’re eighty” and a strong leading bassline punching through on “broken shell”, bringing brazen sass. The percussion throughout is decorative and considered, bringing energy and considered drive that flows through the record.
A personal favourite is “become the one”, a chilled out track with a Latin feel laced into the guitar and drum parts, allowing Emily’s vocals to sit low and smooth, a placement that allows for warm resonance. Vocals dance with the expressive guitar solos, and come together to create a track that you could listen to with ease.
