The keen reader might recall British newcomer Ellis Evason from a recent article we did about ‘Lipstick’, a stunning, melancholic gem that has been collecting heaps of streams on Spotify alone (in fact it’s the project’s most-streamed release to date). Fortified from such global attention, Evason now returns with his latest effort, ‘SUMMER_PAK’, a stunning four-track EP exploring all the majestic eclecticism Ellis has to offer.
On a bed of feral and breakbeat-flavoured samples, the British talent builds a rather compelling sonic universe, often relying on hard-hitting, groovy rhythms and boom-bap style melodic hits. Crowning it all, we find Evason’s charming and engaging vocal tone, dancing over relatable lyricism with fierceness and playful energy. His delivery flow is absolutely irresistible, wrapping the listener into irresistible hip-hop goo.
Speaking about the EP, Ellis explains: “I put this EP together as if it was a programme you could run that delivered summer vibes. I sit in my garden a lot and listen to music in the sun so I wanted to make something that felt perfect for that setting. It was a lot of fun trying out new sounds. I hope this project can keep people’s moods up throughout the remaining summer.”
