What does Ellery Twining stand for? That’s rather hard to say. The project champions eclectic and authentic material, balanced on the intersection between rock, pop and spoken word. It is the spoken word component that got our attention, in particular. That’s the element that allows Ellery Twining to shy away from common pop formulas. Instead, the American creative focuses on a never-ending stream of consciousness, delivering slices of daily life and unexpected events. The sonic contour follows the storytelling precisely, providing a fitting and hypnotising background for such refined songwriting (or poetry, novel writing, at this point).
The manifestation of the above can be seen in ‘RESULTS’, Ellery Twining’s latest effort. In it, the listener will jump into a 9-track long album, encompassing a big part of its author’s life. As he explains: “The underlying themes of popular culture, childhood survival tactics, and the consequences of Socially Acceptable Divorce are the point of view you may not know you need to know…”
An impressive offering from the Connecticut-based talent, a well-rounded creative, multi-instrumentalist and – as it turns out – a poet too.
