After taking a two-year musical break to hone her craft, Gold Coast-based singer/songwriter Elke Schon has made a powerful return with an utterly dreamy indie-pop ballad titled ‘Pages You’ll Never Read’. It’s a bold and fearless sonic shift from her debut single ‘Talk To Me’, and one that showcases a maturity and confidence that elevates her sound to breathtaking new heights.
Inspired by artists like Billie Eilish, beabadoobee, and Gracie Abrams, Elke leans into a pop-folk style influenced by legendary Beatle George Harrison and 80s alt-rockers The Sundays. This beautifully eclectic and wide-ranging set of inspirations has led to the musician’s emotive and unfeigned new sound, and it’s this sound that firmly establishes Schon as an artist to keep a close eye (and ear) on!
“I wrote this song about yearning for someone you care about while struggling with unreciprocated feelings,” says Elke on the meaning behind the tune. “It also reflects on the experience of journaling about this person, fully aware they’ll never read it, and the frustration of feeling like you’ve wasted your time and emotions on them”.
Quickly worming its way onto my “Favourite Tracks of the Year” list, ‘Pages You’ll Never Read’ sets the stage for Elke Schon to carve out a successful and lasting legacy.
