‘Impermanencia’ is an album once described as being for “gourmet palates” and “people willing to let themselves be carried away by time and enveloped by sound”. Courtesy of Valencia-based five-piece El Agente Naranja, the eleven-track, hour-long record is a sonic adventure through progressive rock and ambient electronic landscapes. I mean…it’s obviously much more than that, but describing the entire album in a few words would be like summarising a novel with an emoji.
Through vast, lush soundscapes and deeply emotive vocals, El Agente Naranja concoct a listening masterpiece that simply refuses to be confined by genre or expectation. Track two, ‘El Miedo’, is a twelve-and-a-half minute epic, and sent me through a whirlwind of introspective and full-blown emotions I haven’t experienced in some time.
Other standout tunes on ‘Impermanencia’ are ‘El Vacío’, ‘El Sitio’, and the record’s penultimate wonder ‘El Sueño’. In all honesty, however, you’d be doing the album a disservice not to listen to it in its entirety. It’s pure magic from start to finish!
As for the band’s thoughts, El Agente Naranja leave us with this: “Everything we perceive is impermanent, only our mental perception makes us see matter as static, permanent, something that is actually impossible. We are always in constant change, united with the world around us, sharing imperfection and instability understood as non-permanence”.
