Eden Har-Gil Unveils Elegant Jazz Piece ‘Leaf’

While Jazz is not often featured on our pages, the writer of this article hides a secret love for it, sharing a past as a jazz drummer (in training). Having listened to Duke Ellington and Count Basie’s big bands on old vinyl will certainly help to appreciate Eden Har-Gil’s latest record, an elegant and evocative piece built over the American talent’s enlightened drumming action. ‘Leaf’ acts as a debut single, showcasing a slow-paced incursion in bebop and cool jazz territories.

We love it; particularly, we are drawn to its loyalty to the tradition. While exploring a certain compositional modernity, Har-Gil is not afraid to stay true to the classics, especially when it comes to piano solos and ballad-like fragility. Featuring Marshal Herridge on upright bass and Sora Kim on piano, the trio manage to create a tonal world that feels bold and decisive, yet soothing and hypnotising.

Leaving swung action behind, Har-Gil delves into straight-rhythm jazz with mastery and attention to detail, delivering a vibrant and immersive listening experience; He truly is the new generation, gloriously taking his place among the greats.
