Dwen Share Hazy Gem ‘Slow Death Machine’

We would refer to Dwen as a musical project, but to be completely honest that feels reductive, even disrespectful. You see, the British psych/experimental trio are far from being a purely musical endeavour. Instead, we’d describe it as a holistic creative entity, one that takes cues from the likes of Jerzy Grotowski and Carl Jung, as it does from its multicultural roots, spanning Wales, Iraq and Poland.

Originally conceived in the Yorkshire Dales, Dwen now flourishes in East London, where we are confident that their esoteric, philosophical approach to art-making is widely appreciated. ‘Slow Death Machine’ is their latest effort, the first single to see the light in 2024. Following up on their previous EP Leoht Farn, ‘Slow Death Machine’ is packed with the kind of cathartic, hypnotising energy that makes the project so great.

Part lo-fi, part psychedelic, the single remains traditional to Dwen’s past catalogue, while showcasing a newly found sonic character – one that feels more mature and ripe. The listening experience is hazy and bubbly, just as one would expect.
