There’s a certain doom character in ‘Denied’. Championing deep and melancholic guitar sounds (Drop D anyone?), the Brighton-based outfit builds a sound that feels fierce, punchy and chaotic, almost industrial. There’s also a pleasurable contrast between verses and choruses, delivered at different intensity and distortion levels. Echoing the likes of Rammstein, Dry Run’s main vocals feel surprisingly creepy, gritty and fuzzy, helping the song reach listeners with a more alternative musical taste.
Active since last year, the group has very clear ideas on where they are headed. ‘Denied’ is a convincing offering, both in terms of styling and production quality, a sign that the British band might be in for a rather successful career. In fact, they are working on their second EP right now at Salvation Studios in Brighton – looking forward to hearing it.
Charmingly reiterating the complex and nuanced lyricism behind the single, Dry Run explains: “No future being bright, no presence of respite, no route to feeling high, no understanding why. Life is full of promise, but the outcome is often denied.”
