It’s incredibly difficult to describe the music that DropJaw Jacobites do. As in, it’s so vast and expansive in its references, that we’d be just listing stuff for a good ten minutes. Instead of doing that, we’ll be telling you why you should give their latest record a try. ‘Rogue Taxidermy’ is a long 10-track album clearly illustrating the leftfield, experimental and avant-garde waters they constantly bathe in.
Oscillating over gloomy, psychedelic art-rock, dramatic songwriting and ambitious melodies, plus a keen eye for researched sound design, the mysterious trio finds a common path into everything that’s unconventional. While the wider playing field can be individuated within the realms of rock (or guitar-powered, universally speaking), traces and fragments of neighbouring genres, electronic tones and creepy spoken words are ever-present, securing ‘Rogue Taxidermy’ a rather large range of action.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, DropJaw Jacobites explain: “Like a fistfight with the devil, our music is challenging, thought-provoking, memorable, and rewarding, if you can hang with it”.
