Dream of a Man in a Top Hat Remains as Uncompromising as Ever on ‘Opposite Poles’

Jeremy Bregman

Dream of a Man in a Top Hat is a Boston-based duo compromised of Lee Leffler and Michael Frackleton, both members of the 80s post-punk act Native Tongue. More than 30 years after first working together, the pair met up again in 2020, and have been exciting experimental and psychedelic fans ever since! ‘Opposite Poles’ is their brand new single, and the fifth that the duo has released so far this year.

Let me say this…it will take you on a sonic rollercoaster of epic proportions! It’s messy, and even a little chaotic at times, but the tune sucks you into its fuzzy and gritty world, and you find yourself intrigued and fascinated to see how the story will play out.

While the years have passed, technology has changed, and lyrics are now written on cellphones instead of notepads, the two musicians have never lost that hunger and appetite for crafting unique and uncompromising music. In today’s musical climate, I believe there’s something to be said about that.

‘Opposite Poles’ may not be for everyone. It might be a little too experimental and “out-there”. But, if you’re one of the lucky ones who it resonates with, just enjoy your time with it.
