dr.rift unveils folk-lenient jewel ‘No Death’

When people mention ‘sonic goodness’, perhaps they are referring to dr.rift. Hailing from Canada, the talented musician and singer is known by day as Kyle Halldorson, previously the founder of Western Canadian Music Award-winning act Dizzy Mystics. Now pursuing a solo effort, Halldorson finds refuge in wholesome blues rock influences with a highly cathartic and meaningful component.

‘No Death’ is the perfect evidence of that; introduced by soothing vocals and a gently-strummed acoustic guitar, the single is a worthy entry into dr.rift’s imaginative artistic universe, a place packed with blissful vocal harmonies and a strong folk-lenient character. ‘No Death’ eventually turns up the intensity, with a delightful full-band excursus and catchy motifs. Evelyn McKinley does a great job on the vocal harmonies, really evoking a sense of elegance and lusciousness, along with a deeply nostalgic flair.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, dr.rift explains: “The imagery and final touches of ‘No Death’ were inspired by walks through the Stony Mountain quarry in Manitoba during an especially dry summer, surrounded by an apocalyptic yet hauntingly beautiful landscape. The line “I can’t find you in the haze rising from our burning grace” captures both the literal and emotional atmosphere of loss and transformation.”
