Donn Chii is a self-produced multi-instrumentalist and rapper who is currently based in the mecca of hip-hop that is Atlanta, Georgia. Last month, he dropped his stellar new EP called ‘LUVERBOI’, a six-track collection of love tunes that he’d been working on over the last few years. ‘Feelz’, the EP’s opener and first single, sets the tone perfectly for what’s to come. A smooth, laidback, and downbeat track that tells an all-too-relatable tale of heartbreak and hurt. ‘Wonderland’ follows ‘Feelz’, and maintains the same chilled-out and mellow vibe, with some hypnotising guitar work courtesy of Donn.
Drawing on influence from the likes of Big Sean, Juice WRLD, and Post Malone, Chii is quick to point out that he surrenders himself to the rhythm and allows it to guide his path. “I don’t try to create that emo hip-hop genre,” he says. “I just try to create the mood for that specific song”. ‘Get Me Thru’ and ‘Dream’ both serve as perfect examples of this.
‘Want Me Or Not’ and the bonus track ‘Blinded Me With Science’ complete the EP. The latter shows Donn at his most experimental. It also showcases his versatility and willingness to try out new things. What more could one want?
