If we could describe Domax’s music with a word, we’d choose ‘gooey’. That’s the sentiment we feel is more aking to the project’s seminal and mesmerising blend of electronica and live drums, locking together to form a gelatinous substance, an irresistible musical recipe that instantly draws the listeners into his timeless, infinite artistic horizons. ‘Volca’ is only the latest example of this: the London-based creative has been borrowing deeper from modern jazz – especially through soulful drum grooves and song structure – while maintaining the cutting-edge electronic element that greatly characterizes the project.
There’s also a certain minimalism in it – nothing seems to overpower the infinite cycle of a wonderfully recorded live drums. Although, at a deeper look, they are merely a small part of the puzzle. ‘Volca’ comes together when examined with a global approach: the 5-track record is a celebration of retro influences and modern tones, transporting the listener on an authentically unique sonic journey.
A multi-instrumentalist based in the UK, Domax is certainly no stranger to the music industry. With a strong background as a session musician with Sister Sledge, Incognito, Emeli Sandé and Maverick Sabre, the British talent now seeks to make a name for himself, a goal we’d say he already reached brilliantly. Co-founder of record label Jam International, Domax has released 4 Eps and a single in the last 9 months and has more in the pipeline for 2023.
