Dom Malin Explores Grief and Pain in Tender Acoustic Jewel ‘All I Know’

The keen reader might remember British storyteller Dom Malin from a feature we did not long ago (about his collaboration with Luna Keller, ‘Overgrown’). Now, the Birmingham storyteller returns with his latest single, ‘All I Know’, a gentle and sorrowful exploration of grief and pain when losing someone dear to mental illness.

We are not novices to Malin’s refined musical style, often lingering on detailed guitar patterns and intimate harmonies. Described as a musical prodigy, his passion and talent were forged at a young age, showcasing plenty of time his prowess for art, especially during school. His music often navigates natural themes, all punctuated by genre-fluid melodies and dynamic instrumentation.

‘All I Know’ introduces itself with gentle guitar fingerpicking and tender vocals, gradually building up intensity and character, cinematic percussions join the scene later on, making the piece an epic emotional gem. Describing the inspiration behind the song, Malin explains: “All I Know’ was inspired by the line ‘down by the river, she calls to a saint’. Following a conversation with a friend, I had this vision of losing someone close due to mental health. This allowed me to explore the movements, thoughts and restlessness that become of someone with deep sorrow.”
