Boasting such talent and eclecticism, it is only natural for The Reveal to call Nashville their home. A talented bluegrass and Americana outfit, they have been working on a modern take on their beloved genre, mixing it up with hip-hop and pop influences. The results are staggering, and frankly, are clear evidence of the visionary nature of the American band. ‘Shadows Dancin’ is the latest example of that: blending classic bluegrass with drum machines and body-shaking bass tones, The Reveal tries to perfect a sonic formula that seems to be pushing them at the forefront of the scene.
The single is part of a larger EP, ‘Down South’, expanding the narrative towards mainstream pop – in the style of country and bluegrass. Why do we mention pop? Because, all in all, The Reveal’s offerings are totally relatable to a wider public, offering songs that are catchy and Americana-flavoured. The flavouring comes with a few tropes of the trade: a banjo, a steel guitar, and a minimal drumkit. It all concurs in packaging The Reveal’s alluring musical output.
Describing themselves as “an entirely new style of modern outlaw country music”, the group seems to be crowning themselves as one of the freshest outfits on the scene. We can confirm, they are. Seeking authenticity with ‘Shadows Dancin’, the single is perhaps the most unfiltered song in the EP, with The Reveal recruiting guest players from Nashville’s bluegrass scene, even featuring guitarist Josh Norfleet’s cousin, Tristen Norfleet.
