Dive Into Ricky Jamaraz’s Dreamy and Lo-Fi New EP, ‘2am Jam’

We have been following Ricky Jamaraz’s artistic journey since earlier this summer. Navigating a fizzy and edgy sound, the Nottingham resident has been showcasing huge productivity, releasing a bunch of singles and even an album, earlier this year. This week, Jamaraz follows up on his journey towards greatness with what we believe to be some of his best material to date: ‘2am Jams’ collects four delicious tracks that are all we have ever wanted. It is lo-fi, dreamy and shoegazey goodness, placing hypnotising and playful melodies over an artisan, glimmering arrangement.

Although it could be said that Ricky engages in guitar-driven indie bedroom pop, it is also true that he’s perhaps come to a point where that definition doesn’t make him justice anymore. Take for instance ‘i miss you’. Its fast-paced, retro-wave-flavoured instrumental is met with charming, gritty spoken words, only to deliver a catchy and poignant melody during the chorus. We feel as if Jamaraz has found a peculiar recipe, containing the founding elements of his kaleidoscopic artistry.

‘Mariokry’ turns the tempo down, favouring sleazy, clean guitars and filtered, ethereal vocals, treated with echoes and reverb. ‘romanticising autumn’ takes the role of a more poppy track in the EP, developing a spectacular songwriting work and choir-like attitude. Opener ‘let me know’ lightens the mood, a pure and blissful love anthem – love doesn’t have to be always complicated!

Overall, a fantastic release by Jamaraz, who we’d be keen to watch live: we are waiting for you in London, Ricky!
