First landing on Earth last year, THORN could be described as a mystical creature, an ever-evolving, mysterious entity making its way to Mount Olympus and then transcending into Heaven. Or, the place where all Gods live. Is he a music God? He could – perhaps the industry is still sleeping on the project, but we are confident it will wake up soon.
Calling Teignmouth home, THORN builds a highly personal sonic universe, made up of fragmented industrial matter, slices of post-punk and distorted samples, all blending into a shapeless package, a trippy and haunting musical journey that is bound to puzzle every keen listener out there. ‘WE ARE HAPPY (Of The Pale Criminal)’ is the project’s latest effort, the newest chapter in THORN’s path to stardom (or martyrdom?).
In it, we catch a clearer glimpse of the human behind the project, sharing noisy and saturated vocals with us. Lyrically, the record seeks to be an introspective exploration of its author’s personality and personal experiences. As THORN explains: “Being free within oneself. Striving for clarity of mind. Cold-cut attitudes & electrifying your thoughts. Understanding my own sexuality and the nature of this 1 nightstand age, my own willingness to give in & then reflect and push past into a state of sexual freedom. The soundscaping of this track is largely inspired by the industrial underbelly of Slovakia and my own travels around Europe, feeding off the petrol and stains to inspire the music.”
